Award-winning Columbia University journalism professor, New York Times education and religion columnist, and author of nine acclaimed books, Samuel G. Freedman will present his recently-released “Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights” in a side-by-side discussion with Milwaukee pastor Rev. Dr. Lisa Bates-Froiland. Before a shift in vocation, Bates-Froiland wrote her doctoral dissertation on the conflicted legacy of Hubert Humphrey. Her ministry at Redeemer Church, adjacent to Marquette University, involves a diverse population with deep connections with a neighborhood marked by poverty and promise. Investigative reporter and Columbia Journalism professor Meg Kissinger will moderate. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
