Thanks to the efforts of NWSP, Merrill Park secured a Targeted Investment Neighborhood (TIN) approval in 2023. TINs are part of a City of Milwaukee initiative aimed at enhancing housing sustainability and overall quality of life in designated areas.
This neighborhood, bordered by 29th to 35th Street and Michigan Street to I-94, is celebrated for its beautiful, historic homes. However, residents voiced concerns about the need for upkeep and rehabilitation to preserve these historic treasures.
Being part of this TIN program means that homeowners and landlords will have access to no-interest, partially forgivable loans. These loans can be used for projects that improve a home’s appearance, safety or sustainability. Each approved TINs program, including this one secured for Merrill Park, runs for three years.
Beyond the Targeted Investment Neighborhoods program’s offerings, NWSP is also amplifying impact through its Live, Work, Play initiative by matching awarded housing grants up to $1,000. This added support aims to encourage homeowners to invest in the area, improve housing quality, and enrich the neighborhood’s appeal.
As a valued neighborhood in the Near West Side, Merrill Park’s development is key to NWSP’s mission. By supporting residents in enhancing their living spaces, NWSP not only helps preserve the neighborhood’s historic charm but also attracts new homeowners and businesses, driving growth and strengthening the community.
