Safe & Sound Announces Wear Orange Weekend:
A Powerful Weekend to End Gun Violence through Advocacy, Remembrance, and Healing
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – June 6, 2025 – Safe & Sound, in proud partnership with Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE), Prolific Arms, City of Milwaukee Office of Community Wellness & Safety, MKE Elevate, WGLB (Where Gospel Lovers Belong) Radio, and other community leaders, invites the public and media to join Wear Orange Weekend 2025 on June 6 and 7 at Safe & Sound (4422 W Leon Terrace, Milwaukee, WI 53216).
Wear Orange Weekend is part of a national movement honoring lives lost and forever changed by gun violence. Originating in 2013 when teens in Chicago wore orange to remember Hadiya Pendleton, the color now symbolizes the call for action and solidarity. This year marks the 11th anniversary of National Gun Violence Awareness observances.
One of the highlights of the weekend is a Youth-Led Press Conference at 9:00AM on Saturday, June 7, featuring Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson. We urge all media outlets to attend and amplify the voices of youth as they call for change and share their vision for safe and empowered neighborhoods.
Event Highlights Include:
Friday, June 6
• End Gun Violence Banner & Say Their Names Flag Display: 4:00PM
• Enough Play: 6:00PM
• Art Heals Workshop (FREE for youth ages 12–18): 6:00–8:00PM
