What To Expect
  • While serious side effects are extremely rare, there are some common vaccine side effects such as soreness, redness, and swelling at the site of the shot.
  • Second dose appointments, if necessary, will be scheduled on site after your first dose.
  • Mask wearing and social distancing policies apply.

What You Need To Know About COVID-19 Vaccines

There are currently three vaccines authorized for use and other vaccines are in development. The Pfizer/ BioNTech and Moderna vaccines require two doses, and a third vaccine, developed by Johnson & Johnson requires only 1 dose for effective protection from COVID-19.

The CDC recommends receiving a booster dose at least 6 months after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or at least 2 months after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The booster does not have to be the same vaccine as initially received.

While serious side effects are extremely rare, there are some more common vaccine side effects such as soreness, redness, and swelling at the site of the shot and flu-like symptoms.

  • Protect yourself and others from COVID-19, even those who have gotten the virus already.
  • Vaccination can protect people from the most serious consequences of COVID-19.

When enough individuals have protection there are less affected people in a community and the virus cannot continue to spread widely and infect others.

  • Because of the pandemic, the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to let individuals get a vaccine before all the trials are complete. In August, the FDA fully approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
  • COVID-19 vaccinations have undergone very strict testing and safety is the top priority during all phases of development.

  • COVID-19 vaccinations are FREE.
  • Everyone ages 5 years and older is eligible for COVID-19 vaccine free of charge. Those under 18 must have parent/guardian consent. The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for ages 5 and older, and the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for ages 18 and older. No insurance information is required or will be collected.

Financial Assistance for Businesses

Business Recovery

Brew City Match has developed supports for small businesses with COVID-19 Small Business Emergency Loan Fund that provides zero-interest loans up to $10,000 to small businesses to assist with rent, payroll, and other fixed expenses.

The PPP is a loan program helping employers retain employees by providing partially forgivable loans up to $10 million for specific expenses, including payroll costs, rent, utilities and other debt obligations.

HWCC’s Emergency Loan Fund provides small business loans Loans from $5,000 and up to $10,000.

MEDC provides Milwaukee businesses low-interest loans and other resources.

Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Program provides funding to small businesses registered with the SBA. Apply for emergency Disaster Loan Assistance through the online portal.

WWBIC is offering all business and financial education programming online and on-demand.

Food Distribution

Hunger Task Force is maintaining an interactive map of emergency food distribution sites.

Hunger Task Force administers the Stockbox program for seniors. To apply for Stockbox, call Rick Lewandowski at 414-777-0483 or call IMPACT at 211 to apply. 2-1-1 can also connect callers to the nearest Stockbox site.

Housing Support

If you are in need of immediate rental assistance, visit the website linked above, call the MKE RHRC helpline at (414) 895-RENT (414-895-7368) or send an email to info@renthelpmke.org.

WRAP assists eligible renters who have had a significant loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and need help with their rent by providing grants of up to $3000. Milwaukee County residents can call the Social Development Commission at 414-326-2888 to inquire about eligibility.

 Access to emergency services including housing, energy assistance, and family services.

Unemployment Insurance

The Federal CARES Act expands unemployment insurance to help Wisconsin workers that have been furloughed or laid off. Unemployment insurance is also now available for workers who are unemployed or unable to work because of the virus and don’t qualify for traditional benefits.
