Freedman will present his recently-released “Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights” in a side-by-side discussion with Milwaukee pastor Rev. Dr. Lisa Bates-Froiland. Before a shift in vocation\, Bates-Froiland wrote her doctoral dissertation on the conflicted legacy of Hubert Humphrey. Her ministry at Redeemer Church\, adjacent to Marquette University\, involves a diverse population with deep connections with a neighborhood marked by poverty and promise. Investigative reporter and Columbia Journalism professor Meg Kissinger will moderate. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

This is the 33rd Milwaukee area TELLABRATION. \nThis year’s event includes:\nDavid HB Drake\,\nErin Johnston\,\nTerri Bartlett\,\nPaul Akert\,\nJohn McGee\, and\nTeju Ologboni.\nJean-Andrew will act as emcee and Virginia Hirsch will read this year’s proclamation. \nTELLABRATION is a worldwide storytelling event coordinated\nby the National Storytelling Network and produced locally. It celebrates the art of storytelling and links storytelling enthusiasts on the same weekend around the globe. M.A.S.T. has been hosting this event since 1990. \nThe event has grown into one of the most impressive collective events in the history of the modern storytelling revival.
